The Way
How to transform the American Dream into daily reality!
One suggestion is that the dream can indeed be implemented by following:
The Way of Concord
The Way of Concord is the way of jujitsu. When faced with overwhelming force, it is not wise to stay in the way of your opponent. You ought to use the art of weaponless self-defense developed in Japan many centuries ago. Jujitsu is a science that uses throws, holds, and blows as well as the power derived from the attacker's own weight and strength.
This strategy can be applied to contemporary political, social, and economic life by discovering common goals and convincing your opponent to work with you on the achievement of the determined common goals. This strategy can be called the Way of Concord. It can be reduced to the following four fundamental tenets.
Do not stay in the way of militarism; realize that the military are in search of peace; hence, transform the power of the military by creating a parallel force for peace.
Do not stay in the way of racism; realize that the racist wants everyone to be like him or her; hence, transform the racist into a member of the human race.
Do not stay in the way of globalism; realize that the globalist wants to bring the good life to other countries; hence, transform the globalist into a localist.
In the United States, do not stay in the way of either Democrats or Republicans; realize that both parties want the best for their country; hence, transform them both -- as well as any Independent -- into Concordians. Greens and other "minority" parties are certainly included in this invitation.
In their soul, party members, dissatisfied with the polarization of the modern political world, might already be Concordians. And if they are not, the large number of people who do not seem to be able to join either party, the Independents and those who do not vote, certainly are very close to being Concordians.
The Roots of the Concordian World
The roots of the Concordian World extend very deep into the best traditions of the world. I was raised in the Catholic tradition, so it is easier for me to recognize those roots -- from Jesus to Thoreau. But I can also see many other traditions, from Buddhism to Hinduism to "Americanism" (the way of Native Americans) in the propositions that make up the Way of Concord and Pledge of Concord. So, in brief, for me:
A Concordian is a person who rediscovers his or her true inner soul and tries to infuse it into the modern world.
Whereas the modern world, in general, is mechanistic, materialistic, and reductionist -- individualistic, atomistic, isolationist -- hence empty and rather shallow, the Concordian world is holistic, organic, associationistic, and, in the end, very satisfying and very real.
